Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Felon charged with misdemeanor assault, Houston TX

I am a convicted felon, under a name other than my own, they added a middle name. I did 6 months state jail time under this name.

I was accosted by bouncers at a Houston night club and charged with assault, my papers do not show what class it is. I was sent to City jail so I hope it is Class C. I bailed out with $300.00 cash and my paper said they would give it back when I appear. As I am an ex-con, I am scared, please inform me what to expect next month.

Re: Felon charged with misdemeanor assault, Houston TX

1. Your bond will be returned to you at the end of the court case, provided you appear each time there is a hearing set.

2. Your criminal history could work against you if you are found guilty or if you plead guilty to the current charge.

3. It will take a lawyer who regularly practices in the court in which you appear to predict the disposition of your case, but probation would seem to be a good bet if no one was physically injured.

Check with the Public Defender or a good criminal lawyer such as John Ackerman in Houston for more specifics.
