Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

fraudulent use of id

I have been indicted on 5 counts of fraud use of id. I have a lawyer but she keeps me in the dark. I had to find out from the newspaper that I was indicted. When you hire a lawyer, what is the lawyer suppose to tell you? shouldnt she have told me when I was indicted and can she work out a plea bargain with the DA if I have never ever been in trouble before? I am worried that maybe I have hired an attorney that is not very good. If you can tell me the process of what will happen once you get indicted I would appreciate it. The court sent me papers and those papers dont even list my attorney as the defense councel. Thank you for any info you can give me

You need to call your lawywer and talk to her. You are entitled to be kept abreast of what is going on. Tell her to at least send you copies of correpsondence on your case. Some lawyers who do lot of work for their clients forget let them know what is going on.

Most criminal cases are resolved with plea bargains of some sort. A lot of the bargaining takes place at court appearances.
