Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
My friend and I were selling four catalytic converters at a scrapyard about 1 1/2 months ago. All of a sudden an employee comes up and tells us to leave because there is a man parked at the gate taking pictures of us and the converters. Well, my friend and I leave, and this man that was taking the pictures follows us everywhere we go. After him following us on the freeway for like 10 mins I look in the mirror and there is 4 cop cars with lights on pulling us over. So the cops detain both of us, and the guy following us came up to my vehicle where the cops were searching, and determined that none of the converters were his. "I gave consent to search by the way". So they find a child support warrant on me, take me to jail, and let my friend go. They took my Durango and all the belongings in it and said they were keeping them for evidence in a criminal investigation. I bonded out of jail , and they released my vehicle, but kept the converters and all of my fishing poles and tackle that was in there also and said they are doing an investigation and can hold it as long as they want . I haven't been charged with anything other than that non-support warrant and technically they had no reason to pull me over in the first place. Please give me legal counsel with this somebody because this seems wrong as 2 men screwing

Hire a lawyer to talk to the prosecutor about the return of your property. They have the right to keep it a short while to investigate, but it belongs to you (as long as it was not stolen.)
