Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Guilty Conscience
On a police report, I accused my boyfriend of falsely assualting my infant. I regret it sincerely and want to tell the DA the truth. Will I get in trouble?

Re: Guilty Conscience
USUALLY (not always) the DA understands your situation, and does not prosecute -- although the false report is prosecutable. On the other hand if your boyfriend did not do this it is legally, morally and ethically wrong to continue down this path.
Ideally, you should retain your own attorney to present your recantation to the DA.
Less than ideal, but workable, is to contact your boyfriend's lawyer first. Remember that that lawyer does not represent you, but the boyfriend.
