Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

gun ownership

I was convicted of selling $10 worth of marijuana in California in 1986 when I was 18 years old. I've since found out that because that crime was a felony, I can never legally own a gun for the rest of my life...seems kind of harsh, given the nature of the crime, just marijuana, only ten dollars worth, and no violence involved in the crime. Is this true? And if so, is there a way around this? Thanks.

Re: gun ownership

I agree with Mr. Aspinwall.

As an aside, however, you may want to direct your question to California lawyers. Maybe there is a solution under CA law regarding the conviction.

Re: gun ownership

A convicted felon may never again lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition. Period. The only way around this is a Presidential Pardon.
