Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Harassment or stalking, what are my options?

A gentleman (1991) I knew in college will not stop contacting me. We were never involved, but in the beginning, I was friendly towards him, we met for lunch,.etc.

He constantly harrassed me then with phone calls, flowers. When I left that city, he called the address listed in the school's alumni book. He is also insistant that I was prank calling him as a ''secret message''. Then in 98, He also got my address in the new city and continued writing

I am in Alabama-2001. What worries me is that that he has stated that he is going to my home city to ''meet me''...I am going to return to that city soon. I don't want this guy ''coming to meet me''. I have not spoken one word, written, anything to this man in over 8 years. I still get the ''I love you, I'm waiting for you,...Will you marry me?'' We never dated, we were never involved, something is not right with this guy.

Since he hasn't actually made any ''threatening'' remarks in his letter, what can I do? I know this man is unstable emotionally. Can I get a lawyer who will draft a certified/notarized letter w/proof of delivery telling this man to cease all contact. What ''type'' of lawyer will perform this service?

Re: Harassment or stalking, what are my options?

any attorney can write a letter like you describe to this gentleman, but in addition to contacting an attorney for that letter, i would recommend that you contact your district attorney and see if he can do anything to help you. also you can call the police in your local town and make police reports of each incident which would help you with any civil or criminal action that may arise later. please feel free to call me if you have any other questions.

Contact your local District Attorney. Make a stalking complaint. Do this each time there is any contact. Ask about a Temporary Restraining Order which is available if he comes to town.

Good luck.
