Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Should I hire a Lawyer?

Around 2 yrs ago my boyfriend was arrested on a drug possession charge (less that 2 oz of marijauna)in Kaufman, Tx. He was released on bond, about 3 months ago we were notified that he missed his court date. We were in New Mexico and didn't have the money or means to return to Texas. He got back to Texas a week ago and his second day here he was arrested for the warrant. There is a 3k cash bond which I can have by mid-July but I'm wondering if it would be better to get a Lawyer before trying to get him out of jail.

Re: Should I hire a Lawyer?

When you pay a commercial bondsman the money is gone. You will never get it back.

In many courts it is possible to post a 10% cash bond, and get that money back when the defendant keeps his court dates and is finally discharged.

So a lawyer can advise you concerning these things, and consulting with one now should be your first step. Call and make an appointment with a criminal lawyer to have an initial consultation and case evaluation. Be sure to confirm that there is no charge for this first visit. Find out what you need to know, and go from there.

Good luck.
