how long can a case go on with no evidence, and how do you get the lawyer to get it dismissed as soon as possible?

Based on what you have written, there are time lines that the prosecutors typically follow when prosecuting cases. Generally, after a certain time the prosecutors either have the evidence to move forward or will have to drop the case. You have to retian a criminal defense attorney to assist you with attempting to have the allegations dismissed by the prosecutor.
