Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Still injail...now what?
Texas - Dallas County
My mom has been in jail at Dallas County since the beginning of May. Her bond was to high so she stayed put until her court date on July 3rd. From what she told me she received time served for the offense and 45 days at Homeward Bound. It is now the 28th of July and she still sits in Dallas County. Since the 3rd, her lawyer has not returned my calls and I have not been successful in finding any additional info. The Dallas County site offers a good amount of information and it appears incomplete plus there is a Hold on her from Agency ID: unknown. It has been on that the jail lookup since June and has not changed or developed. I am not sure what that really means either. Are there other charges that have not been filed? If so, will she need to stay at Dallas County until it has been resolved/sentenced? I have no idea who to call to find out what is really going on. I am truly quite lost so any advice anyone could offer would be fantastic. Thank you for taking the time.

Re: Still injail...now what?
First, her attorney is not your attorney, and is probably court-appointed, and not likely to return your calls.
Try writing him/her a letter explaining that your mom has not been released to Homeward Bound. She also should be getting credit for the time served since 7/3/2008. Contact Homeward Bound, see if they are willing to inquire as to her whereabouts.
Lew Sterrett is not famous for its efficiency, for good reason. The hold could be from immigration (?); another pending charge; or merely a screwup. Good luck being the squeaky wheel.
