Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
A lady at my mom's clothing store was caught shoplifting about a hundred dollars worth of merchandise. When confronted, the suspect denied everything, punched my mom in the face, and fled the scene of the crimes. I was just recently told that the suspect was charged with a 2nd degree robbery felony, but could not tell me how long her sentence was. I am definitely curious as to how long her sentence might be(if any) and if she could even be stuck with no jail time and just probation. (TX)

Unless she has prior felony convictions, the maximum sentence would be 20 years. It is possible that she could get probation, again depending mostly on what her prior history is, and perhaps also how badly your mom was hurt. It's also possible, and not too unusual in cases like this, that the DA might end up offering to plead the robbery down to misdemeanor theft, assault, or both, if your mom wasn't seriosuly injured and this woman doesn't have a bad history.
