Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

I think this lawyer is scamming me

I hired a lawyer for my son the lawyer asked me for $10,000 I gave it to him, first day in court he didn't show up, he faxed the DA with some excuss. Okay he shows up at the plea hearing and talks to the DA then pulls me to the side and ask me for $10,000 more . for suppression of evidence he says, I told him I don't have it. and when the next court date came up he didn't show up again, want return phone calls, when I finally got in touch with him and he says he needs the money before he can come to court. Is this legal can he do this ? What did I give him 10,000 in the being ? What can I do? I gave him my life saving I have nothing left.

Was there a written contract with the attorney? If you. If you want to report the lawyer, then go to http://www.texasbar.com/Template.cfm?Section=Client_Assistance_and_Grievance&Template=/TaggedPage/TaggedPageDisplay.cfm&TPLID=51&ContentID=7034

However, I advise trying to resolve the matter with the lawyer before filing a grievance. It is hard to say if the fee is unreasonable without knowing the charge and what the money is for.
