Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Legal Advise Needed

I was involved in a confrontation with a friend Mar 2007. We had a argument. I turned to walk away and was hit from behind. I was told by a witness that the friend is the one who hit me. I called the police the next morning and filed assault. I was informed by the officer that I would receive something in the mail regarding a court date. I never did. Since I did not have my friends address and could only tell the police what apt complex she lived in. I assumed nothing would become of this. Several weeks had past and I was told by a close friend that the person I filed on was not who actually hit me. It was another girl there. The initial witness evidentally told me wrong on purpose, to defend the actual person who did this. The person I filed on received a letter from a lawyer working for the City of Dallas around Mar/Apr of 2008. Stating she had a warrant and owed the City over 600.00 for a fine. She called the City and this all pertains to the asault charge. This is the only letter she has ever received regarding this matter. She went to a bail bond and had the warrant lifted. She now has a court date for April 2009. The court has a hold on her renewing her drivers license. What can she or I do to resolve this now.

Re: Legal Advise Needed

I would recommend talking to the City of Dallas Prosecutor to let them know. Additionally, I would write a letter to your friend stating the above facts so your friend's lawyer will be able to get the case dismissed.
