Subpoenas can be served by mail or by leaving them on the door if they are not marked "personal service". The problem the person subpoenaing you will have is proving that you have been subpoenaed. The process serve can only say they left it on the door but there are many things that can happen to a piece of paper left on a door that would cause the intended receipient not to get it.
