Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Legal question

My ex girlfriend was sleeping with another man while we were still in a relationship, planning marriage. When I found out I made threatening remarks toward the new boyfriend. Approximately two days later I apologized to my ex for my behavior and have made no contact regarding her new relationship. A police report was filed. Can I be charged?

Re: Legal question

Hello there,

Well, the good thing is that you didn't assault him. I always go to the old saying of sticks and stones.

Regarding your statements, it is difficult to know wether or not a terroristic threat could be charged against you. The police have a lot more work to do than charge everyone for threating statements under these circumstances. They are usually more interested in violating individuals rights and chasing after their next donut.

But, you have a good defense given your state of mind of planning to marry the girl.

Overall, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Its good you discovered your ex before marrying her and dealing with what would have been a very unhappy, untrusting, adulterous marriage.

It is difficult for you to fully understand how blessed you are for discovering this. Get right back out there and just have some fun and focus on your self for a while.

One day you will be thanking your ex for freeing you.

Feel free to contact my office if you need to discuss this.

Sincerely,

Erick Platten
