Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
I lend my van to my daughter-in-law to finish school and the only one driving it to the ground is her boyfriend. I want it back, but he is violent and I am afraid that he might damage the van or do something to me. He has a criminal history and a temper.
What is the best way to handle this, I have the title.

Write a letter to your daughter in law that you want the van back. Ask her to deliver the van to you or to tell you where it is. If she tells you that the boyfriend has it, contact the boyfried via certified mail, explaining that you hold title to the van, understand that he is in possession of it. State that you need him to return the van to you by a date certain and that you do not consent to his possession of the van and will assume that if you do not receive the van by that date that he has intentionally taken it from you without your consent.
Once you have the green card showing proof that he has received the letter and the van has not been delivered to you, call the police and show them the title, letter and proof of delivery.. You may want to file a protective order.
Unfortunately none of this will protect you from violence.
