Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

I live in Texas. What can happen to me if I was in possession of stolen property? I did not steal it, I bought it from the person who stole it?

Your possession of the property is unlawful if: the property is stolen and the actor appropriates the property knowing it was stolen by another; or property in the custody of any law enforcement agency was explicitly represented by any law enforcement agent to the actor as being stolen and the actor appropriates the property believing it was stolen by another.

You have to have some knowledge of the nature of the property's ownership, but a mere denial on your part may not be enough. The State could prove that you committed an offense if they can circumstantially prove your intent.

You should consult with a local criminal defense attorney for more information.
