Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
How long do I have to press charges if I have a case #?
I am waiting to see if a certain man's family is going to pay for medical bills for an assault. If I dont press charges right away, will I miss my window? Is there a statute of limitations?

yes, there is a statute of limitations. The shortest statute of limitations for crimes in Texas is 2 years. You need to be aware, however, that it is not really up to you whether to press charges or not, it is up to the prosecutor. If you wait for a year and a half to report the crime, there is a good chance a DA wont want to prosecute.
