Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Lost and Found Purse?

So I worked for a fairly popular retail store. Three men brought me a purse that they said they found in the store. I put it in a drawer behind the counter. Maybe an hour later, a woman asked if I had seen a purse, to which I answered NO. I did not mean to lie to the woman, but the store was very busy and I honestly lost track of time, and blurted out what first came to mind. The purse was found by the lady later on in the night, and now 3 weeks later, a detective contacts me asking me a few questions. I have not been charged and the detective said she didnt ''seem like she was going to pursue'', but Im wondering what are my options, and what I could be charged with? Thanks in advance

Re: Lost and Found Purse?

You could be charged with theft -- as they can allege that you had possession and control of the property of another with the intent to exercise control.

Proving that charge would be extremely difficult.
