Man appealing 20 year indecency sent . Could a civil suit affect outcome?
My daughter (now 10) was improperly touched over several years by a man who is related (by marriage) to her father (whom I am divorced from). He was convicted in May 2005 and sentenced to maximum 20 years. He has appealed. Would I possibly damage the legal part of the case by filing a civil suit against him? I have been told that it would appear to a jury that we are ''just after his money''. But if we wait until the appeals are exhausted, the money will be gone and memories fade, etc.

A civil case has no 'actual'bearing on the outcome of a criminal appeal. Anyone who ever files a civil damages case appears to be after money, because money is a measure by which we punish people. You should indeed file now, before the money and memories fade. Although I do handle civil litigation of this nature, I can refer you to excellent attorneys who do. TCL
