Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Mentally ill incarcerated, who pays med bills
My mentally ill brother (psychotic, bi polar) charge with 2 felony assaults. I can scrape up enough money to hire a private attorney, but I am getting conflicting information about who pays his medical bills if I do. Some lawyers say I must pay for his medical expenses if I hire a private lawyer, and some say I do not have to. How do I find the correct answer.

Re: Mentally ill incarcerated, who pays med bills
Most lawyers will not cover large expenses such as medical expenses and expert witnesses. However, if a lawyer charges you a large fee ($10,000 or more) then they might be willing to pay for the medical records. How much a lawyer will charge will be based on the degree of the felony, if has been indicted, and whether you are looking to go to trial.
