Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

misdemeanor arrest

I was charged via the mail with misdemeanor assault. I slapped my wife with an open hand during an arguement. I cant find what degree or type of misdemeanor this is. Can they charge me without ever reading my my rights? Will this type of misdemeanor keep me from getting a job. I am 34 now and starting college for the first time in business....I have never had any other assault charges ....what can i do?

Re: misdemeanor arrest

Without knowing more, I cannot tell you what classification of misdemeanor Assault charge you face. They do not have to read you your rights, unless you are in custody and they interrogating you. It will not necessarily keep you from getting a job, but it is a very serious offense particularly if they have you charged with Assault based on "Family Violence." You do need to see a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible, and please remember the old addage, you get what you pay for.
