Misdemeanor drug possession

Seventeen year old son arrested and charged with misdemeanor drug possession of 0.2 oz.marijuana. No previous offenses. Do I need an attorney? What can we expect in court proceedings?

That small a quantity should qulaify as "personal consumption" and should result in a fine and probation if there are no exacerbating circumstances.

Speaking with the Public Defender in the court where your son will appear is a good idea because s/he sees these cases all the time and will know the likely disposition in your town.
