Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Misdemenor Theft by check
6 yr ago 2 friends of mine wrote checks on my account. I knew about 1 or 2 of them and thought taken care of them. a couple of months later I was arrested for misdemenor theft by check. I signed forgery affidavits and took hand writng analysis to prove that i did not write the checks. i did not tell the DA or the police that i had any idea of who had written the checks. Earlier this month while out of town I was again arrested for multiple theft by check charges. apparently the police department did an investigation and found 2 or 3 local merchants that stated I was present at the time the checks were written and that I gave permission to write the checks. Now the DAs office is telling me that I have to pay restituion for these checks and that it would not benefit me to hire an attorney. they stated that the cases would be combined into a fellony and i would also be charged with fraud because i knew who wrote the checks. and yes i did know after the fact that she had written ''some'' checks. she did not tell me about all the checks. She went to prison for other charges. I have spent 4 years in nursing school and am about to graduate. this will keep me from getting my RN license. The DA filed no charges on the other person. pls help

Your future is at stake here -- you need to hire a criminal defense lawyer today. It is impossible to properly advise you in a forum such as this. A lawyer may not be able to extricate you from this situation, but you have a better chance with representation.
