If I paid an amount asked for in a civil claim what is the likelihood of being sued in the future?
I paid the amount that was asked for ($350.00) by an attorney's office on behalf of my former employer to settle a theft dispute. I gave back the item in question at the time I was caught. What is the likelihood of my former employer pursuing further legal action, such as a lawsuit?

The likelihood is small.

However, it would be smaller if you paid with a check or got a cash receipt, and a receipt for the item taken so you could prove payment.

If you obtain a signed release, it would be smaller still.

If your employer decides to file a lawsuit he can. However, the more defenses you have, the less likely it is that he will sue.

It is possible that he could file a report with the police and get you prosecuted for theft.
