If a plea offered of six months jail time is turned down, do they then take the case to trial, is the suspect looking at more or less time?

Re: Plea turned down
If convicted, then the sentence is determined by either the judge or jury. In my experience, after trial and conviction, the sentence usually exceeds the plea offer.
