Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Pre trial actions

I plan on defending myself against the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia in Hudspeth county, Texas. I called the court and was told I can send a letter to the court expressing my wish to plead Not Guilty and the Judge will set a court date. My qustion is whether or not I can request a jury trial in my letter and can I make any pre-trial motions (such as motion for dismissal)?

Re: Pre trial actions

Good luck with your plan.

Your motions require hearings.

Judges will normally FTA your bond if you aren't at a scheduled hearing.

If you can't afford a lawyer, you might ask for one court-appointed to at least give you advice.
