Protective order or restraining order? There is a big difference. A restraining order keeps the person from coming to your work or home and from communicating with you in a harassing or threatening manner. A protective order keeps the person away completely (and is unusual.)

You cannot be prosecuted for violating either, but the other person can IF it is a protective order. (If it is a restraining order, then the person can meet you some place and not be in violation.)
