Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
public defender or to hire an attorney
17 yr old was arrested for possession of marijuana less than 2 oz. He admitted it was his to the police. This is his first arrest ever, what are the possibilities that an attorney could get the charge dismissed? Or since he admitted possession will he get fined, serve comm service and now have a record?

Re: public defender or to hire an attorney
He should certainly hire an attorney. Whether or not the case could get dismissed depends entirely upon the circumstances of the arrest and detention. Even if the case is a strong/valid one, an attorney can probably negotiate a lesser sentence.
Re: public defender or to hire an attorney
A first time offender should DEFINITELY hire an attorney. If this case will be in Dallas, Denton, or Collin County, please give me a call.
