Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

putting up a bail bond for someone else

i put up bail 2 times, for a person. she has made no attempt to pay me back. she is living in my house (unfortantley). the only reason i kept her here was to make sure she showed up for court, court changed. in mean time my company check and personal checks have been stolen out of my house. i never done this bond thing in my life. trying to be good person. how can i legally cover myself from bail bond money, or what are my choices. i can't take this behavior any more. i have 2 babies to raise and a legal business to run. she has 4 felony charges against her, so i know court dates could take a while. anything you can help me with would much be appreciated.

thank you

cindy

Re: putting up a bail bond for someone else

Hello there,

Well your on the hook for the bonds unless you file a motion with the court stating that the individual is a flight risk and that you no longer want to be on the bond.

But the question is did you go through a bonding company or did you post a cash bond?

If you posted a cash bond you could file the motion with the court to protect yourself if she doesn't appear in court.

If you went through a bonding company and signed on as a cosigner the bonding company can sue you if she doesn't appear in court.

If my office can be of any assistance feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,
