Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
I stole around $300 from the retail store I work at. I took little amounts of money over the span of a couple of days. This is the first time committing a crime and have never been in trouble with the law besides speeding tickets. I am currently on suspension with my employer and I am charged with Criminal Trespassing. Also, I was told by the officer a detective would get in contact with me with the investigation.
Why question is, what should I expect from the courts? Will I be arrested? What will happen?
1 Answer from Attorneys
What you can expect depends on a lot of factors that you did not discuss. Is this your first offense? In what county was the crime? What is the store policy on prosecuting theft? How old are you?
Assuming that there are no other issues, the theft of $300 is a Class B misdemeanor with a penalty range of up to 180 days in jail and up to a $2000 fine. If this is a first offense, you may be able to get into a pre-trial diversion program or qualify for probation.
You need an attorney to help you get the best deal.
