If you have been charged with a crime, then you need a lawyer to represent you. If you hire a local lawyer, that lawyer will know how long it takes for a case to be brought before a court. I know in many smaller counties, it can take a year or more because of docket backlog.

You can always request a speedy trial. Is that a good idea? If you are on bond, then generally it is not. As long as the case is pending, then you have not been convicted and all kinds of things could happen like the officer could die or move away as could any prosecution witnesses. The evidence could be destroyed or disappear. Anger and memory fades. Many good things can happen.

Even if you request a speedy trial, the right to a speedy trial is still tempered with other factors including the court's busy docket, other cases that need to be addressed, etc.

There is no magic number on the amount of time in which the prosecutor must get your case to trial.
