Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

I received a Class C misdemeanor ticket in TX in 2012 for cussing in public, at the time the lawyer I spoke to told me she would cost more than the ticket and that it was best to just pay it and move on. I didn't know anything of a deferred disposition etc. I paid it and moved on. Now I'm looking for a new job, and am worried about this being on my record, what am I supposed to say when the questions on the application ask if I have been convicted of any crimes other than traffic violations?

First, it is not on your "record" unless you were arrested and fingerprinted. If you were not, it is not a reportable violation. You can say "no." If you were arrested, however, you must say "yes."

Cussing in public is not a violation. However, Disorderly Conduct (Profane Language) is. I wouldn't worry about this kind of case. No one cares!
