Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
I received a subpoena from a district court in Houston Tx by normal mail, not certified. Question is this legal ? If I miss school, I'm in college about 10 hours away, for a week, I will probably flunk. Is there a way I can get out of the subpoena and don't they have to serve you in person or by certified mail?

Do you live more than 150 miles from the courthouse? If you do, the subpoena is invalid.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 176.3 says, "A person may not be required by subpoena to appear or produce documents or other things in a county that is more than 150 miles from where the person resides or is served."
