Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
i was recently staying with someone that i have known for 10 years, i was there for about 3 weeks then returned to my home state. on the return trip i was called and told that i had to return my friends laptop, that i had stolen it. this is completely untrue. while i admit that our laptops are similar, i would never have stolen anything from the guy, and i dont know what has caused his 180. i would have happily taken a polygraph, however being in a different state now that complicates things. point is i got a call from an investigator for the DA saying that they (he and the exfriend) were going to call the police and file a theft report. so the question is what happens now? whats going to happen to me? what should i do as i am completely innocent? the only legal advice ive been given was that i should not contact these people, however the DA told me to call him or my ex friend in the voice-mail. help....

Your situation is simple: You've been accused of a crime you didn't commit.
Fight it.
Don't confess to something you didn't do, and don't cut any deals. You're innocent, period.
Tell them you didn't steal anything and that you're pretty damned outraged that you've been accused of it. Then hang up on them.
If you get arrested, plead "not guilty" and fight it.
