Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Rights of prisoners with disabilites

My husband may be going to state prison from 8 months to 2 years. He is a bipolar manic depressive, has one lung (suffers from chronic pulmonary bronchitis and asthma) and uses a nebulizer when needed; has only one kidney and no spleen (can't fight infection); plus he also suffers with athritis. He has many medical priscriptions including ones for a wheelchair and cane. What are his rights if he goes to prison? His case was assult, he plead self-defense. The person he assulted was 25 and intoxicated and it involved our 17 year old daughter. The man came at my husband with a knive, my husband ran from the back yard of my daughter's friend's houseto the front car port, he was out of breath and the only thing he could do was stop and throw anything he could find to stop the person. It was beer bottles, it took three to stop the guy, but one broke and cut the person (took 32 stitches to close up the cut). The jury found my husband guilty of assault.
