Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
My name is Robert, I am 29 years old and when I was 15 years old back in 1996, I was charged with "involuntary manslaughter" (I was handling a firearm when it discharged and killed my best friend). I was sentenced to 12 months in the Texas Youth Commission (due to my negligent behavior is what I was told). I served my sentence and have not had any trouble with the law since then except for minor traffic violations. So I am wanting to know if this would prevent me from being able to be a police officer or state correctional officer?? Thanks

You should consult the peace officer licensing rules. You should also consult the rules for the department that you are contemplating applying to. You may want to start by checking out this websitehttp://www.tcleose.state.tx.us/. This information is given as general information and does not constitute an attorney client relationship or legal advise. Good Luck!
