Re: sex offender registration

It varies. Generally, failure to register, when the underlying offense was based on a juvenile or deferred adjudication charge and did not involve violence, is a state jail felony (between 6 and 24 months in a state jail facility and up to $10,000 fine).

Otherwise it is a 3rd degree felony (2-10 years in TDJC and up to $10,000 fine); but in some circumstances can be upgraded to a 2nd degree felony (2-20 years in TDJC and up to $10,000 fine).

He needs a lawyer.
