What is shock probation and how does it work in Texas?

Re: Shock Probation
Shock probation is a form of community supervision.
The controlling statute is the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure 42.12 Sec. 6.
It allows the court before the expiration of 180 days from the date of execution of sentence on motion from the state, or the defense to suspend further execution of that sentence and place the defendant on community supervision.
The defendant would have to be otherwise eligible for community supervision and never before have been incarcerated in a penitentiary for a felony.
