Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Shoplifting
My 19 yr old daughter was caught shoplifting and arrested. We bonded her out and she has been charged with a class A misdemenor offense. Since I have never gone through this before I am not sure what to do and what she might be looking at when she goes to court?

Re: Shoplifting
Based on what you have written, a class A misdemeanor has a maximum punishment of up to one year in county jail and an optional fine up to $4,000. Dependent upon your daughter's background, she may be eligible for some form of deferred adjudication or probation. If my local criminal defense law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact my paralegal Tina ([email protected]) to arrange for an initial consultation.
Re: Shoplifting
Hire a lawyer for her right away. At least in this county, the situation you describe is an excellent example of cases that sent to the diversion program, with the end result being no case being filed. Even if she does not qualify for diversion, and attorney may be able to get the case reduced, or deferred adjudication.
