Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

My son (18) was called by a Harris County Constable who identified himself as a DETECTIVE (on 2 different voicemails). I know for sure the constable's office does not have detectives, however, I encouraged him to go down to the precinct and talk to him anyway. He was questioned about some golf clubss that were apparently stolen. He gave all the info he knew of and was released and told to keep in contact. 2 wks later my son called him to check and make sure everything was ok with the case because my son was leaving for a few weeks out of town and I insisted he call before he left. He was told everything was fine. Now 3 weeks later, he receives a "warrant for arrest" letter in the mail for this. IS IT LEGAL FOR THE CONSTABLE TO MISREPRESENT HIMSELF AS A DETECTIVE RATHER THAN A CONSTABLE? Is this the normal routine? My son is due back in town soon and I am worried. Please advise.

Police can and do lie to get information. However, what you described sounds unusual. I suggest you retain a local criminal defense attorney to review this matter. Do not let you son speak with the police without legal advice.
