I wish I could answer that for you. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unknown variables involved. The first one would be whether his offense was anything classified as a "3g" offense (there's a list but basically things that involve violence, sexual offenses, or use of a deadly weapon). If so, he'll have to serve a minimum of half of his sentence before he'll be eligible for release, and the parole board will decide whether he get out then or has to wait. If he doesn't have a 3g case, he'll have a third of his sentence as a minimum, and beyond that, again it gets into what the parole board has to say, and also whether he qualified fr something called mandatory supervision release, which is a presumptive early release program (any current or prior 3g case would exclude him from that, major disciplinary problems while in prison might as well).
