Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

My son has an upcoming hearing for an assault charge and does not have funds for an attorney like he thought he was going to, can he still get a court appointed attorney? At the last hearing he told the judge he thought he would be able to afford his own , but just started a new job and does not have the funds he thought he would, can he be denied the court appointed attorney?

Whether or not someone qualifies for a court appointed attorney is largely dependent on their income. If you cannot afford a lawyer, he should request one from the court. The worst thing they can do is deny his request. In the alternative, the court will likely give him more time to hire a lawyer.
