Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

state charges

My brother was recently arrested and charged with a 2nd degree felony for injuring his girlfriend. they had a fight one night, and she went to the hospital the next evening. The hospital life flighted her to another hospital. We don't know what injuries she sustained. The police told him when they arrested him that she was stable. He is out on bond. He apparently was interrogated for about 2-3 hours and then arrested. He said he told them that she hit him first and then started choking him. His arm was swollen and he was very hoarse, but received no medical attention. He has never had a felony charge before. This is his first serious offense. What can he do? He's willing to plea bargain, if possible to get this over with.

Re: state charges

Domestic violence is a serious charge with serious consequences. If your brother does not have a competent criminal lawyer representing him, he better get one. One aspect of a conviction for DV that many people overlook is that if placed in the national register your brother may never again possess a firearm or ammunition.

Plea bargains are always possible. If he wants to "get this over" without going to jail he better have one.
