Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
State Involvement
Myself and a coworker got involved in a discussion about state or federal involvement with criminal cases. If an unlawful act is commited and neither side wishes to press charges, can the state and/or the Federal government step in and press charges in any/or all cases?

Re: State Involvement
In certain cases, the state/government may want to file charges, even if one of the "victims" doesn't want to. This happens all the time in domestic disputes and assault cases. Once the prosecuting attorneys have been made aware of criminal conduct, they have the discretion to file charges.
