Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Stolen pets
My ex and I agreed that during our break up our dogs would stay at his mothers house. We also agreed it would NOT be permanent. Now he has changed his number and his parents will not return my calls. They will not give my dogs back. What legal action can I take? And, what documents and evidence do I need? Is this is a criminal or civil matter? Can I press charges? I did not GIVE them away I let them stay at her house but they have continued to make it permanent against my will. I just want my dogs back please help me

Re: Stolen pets
Your exhusband or exboyfriend? If the ownership of the dogs was established in a decree, then you can enforce the return of the dogs. If not, then you will need to prove your ownership. You can report the situation to the police, but since you voluntarily placed the dogs there, the police will likely tell you it is a civil matter. You would then need to sue them.
