How does a Texas ex-felon buy a rifle for home defense when the the offense is 36 years old, was expunged and no further offenses were committed?

You would need to provide an attorney with clarification or explanation of your question, since you state you are an ex-felon, but that the case was expunged. If it were expunged, then there is no conviction and you are not an ex-felon. An expunction effectively renders the arrest non-existent.
