That is hybrid representation and the answer is no. Now, if you do represent yourself, some times the judge will appoint a lawyer to "be available" to you if you have questions but if you choose self-representation (and the judge finds that you are able to do it - after questioning you - called a Faretta hearing), then you will represent yourself.
