Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
I violated probation by not having funds necessary to pay off court fines. I recently came into some money and was wondering if by paying off the fees before my court date, what will happen?

The answer is - it's up to the judge. My advice is that you not pay off the fines and fees until your hearing. Advise the judge at that time that you have the ability to pay in full, but if he or she is going to sentence you to jail / prison, there is no need to pay additional monies. Generally, some kind of agreement can be reached so that you are not incarcerated and you can pay your final bill. Sometimes the county will still assess the fines and fees, even if you are sentenced to prison. It will be taken from any commissary money you have in trust with the institution.
This scenario is very common and most judges will not incarcerate you for nonpayment of fines and fees.
