If you are stopped by law enforcement for any reason, and the warrant comes up, they will detain you long enough to determine whether or not Texas will bring you back. Sometimes that takes minutes, hours, or days to determine. Meanwhile, you're in custody, and any vehicle you're driving may be subject to impoundment.

I have a case where my client has been arrested multiple times in other states on a Texas hot check warrant, but never brought back. It's been mighty inconvenient for him over the years. I also had a guy arrested in Utah, and Texas bought him back in shackles in the back of an unar-conditioned paddy wagon in the middle of summer.
