Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
My wife and I recently stayed in a hotel on a trip to see some of her family. Monday I received a call from the police dept. The hotel is claiming that we smashed one of the tv's in our room. We did not do anything to the tv and when we left it was working fine, definitely was not smashed. The hotel manager said that unless we cough up $760 she is going to press charges. The police officer said I could even be arrested. What should I do?

You need to retain a criminal defense attorney.
Just because you know you are innocent does not mean that you could be charged.
An after reviewing the facts an attorney could help you figure out how to proceed.
Understand that the DA presses charges, not the hotel.
I find it odd that a police officer would call in case like this. If you paid the money it could look like an admission of guilt. It may be that the police are simply investigating the case and trying to obtain more evidence against you. Or it may be that no police officer ever contacted you.
I'd have your attorney review any police reports.
